Pitta embodies the fire and water elements in Ayurveda. Those manifest in certain positive mental traits when in balance, and unwanted symptoms when out of balance.

 

in balance pitta is:

  • Focused, sharp, and discerning

  • Intellectual, ambitious, and accomplished

  • Determined and persevering

  • Adept at problem-solving

  • Concise, articulate speech

 

Out of balance, pitta becomes:

  • Overly-analytical

  • Judgmental, frustrated or critical of self or others

  • Perfectionistic

  • Jealous

  • Competitive

 

life events and behaviors that can throw pitta out of balance include:

  • STRESS: Over-work, over-exertion, or “burning your candle at both ends”

  • Constantly critiquing or comparing oneself to others

  • Times of high-demand or extra stress at work

  • Competitive sports

  • Hot weather, excess direct sunlight

  • Excess caffeine or alcohol

 

natural strategies to restore balance for pitta include:

  • Grounding, nourishing, and cooling the body

  • Reducing inflammation in the tissues, organs, and digestive tract

  • Creating ease, flow, and contentment by practicing mindfulness, self-compassion - and just giving yourself and others a break. You don’t have to be perfect.

  • Find ways to ease-up, have fun and ENJOY….
