Why You Need to Get Earthy this Vata Season
We are now 24 weeks along and feeling calm, steady, and grateful.
In case you didn't know, I am pregnant with baby #2, due this coming February!
Learn all about our wild ride of a fertility journey, and how Ayurveda made it possible, by reading HERE.
In Ayurveda, pregnancy is a time to build Kapha (the earth element). But building solid and stable earth isn't just for pregnancy! It's beneficial for everyone - especially during the fall season.
Our Earth is our literal body: as in the physical matter of our being. That's why it's so crucial to nourish this element during pregnancy: because we are literally building another human body!
Healthy, adequate Earth element means:
- Steady and stable physical structures, like
- Bones, muscles, skin, and hair.
- It also establishes a sense of groundedness in our mind and creates a calm, peaceful, contented life.
Most of us need WAY more calm and peace, especially in the fall, right before the holidays. Fall is Vata (air and ether) season, which increases:
- Dryness
- Anxiety and worry
- Erratic appetite, gas, bloating
- Scattered thinking
Guilty of these things, anyone? Me too!
Good news though! We can implement simple Vata-grounding strategies to ground and calm our air and ether and build more earth.
This fall season, make sure you:
- Drink warm drinks instead of cold
- Keep a steady sleep and wake schedule
- Eat root veggies like sweet potatoes and winter squash - yum!
- Drink and eat foods that are mineral rich: nuts, seeds, green leafies, and
- Use black strap molasses (high in iron, B6, potassium, and selenium) as your sweetener of choice
- THIS Molasses Latte is my current favorite morning drink - but it would also be great as a bedtime treat!
